Screening Details and What to Do Before You Come

The Heart Premium Screening is done in Outpatient Cardiovascular Diagnostics in the Colonnades medical office building on the campus of Baptist Medical Center. The day before the screening, have nothing to eat or drink after midnight. The screening will take about 45 minutes.

During the screening:

  • You will complete a form with information about your health history.
  • A clinician will draw blood from your arm.
  • A cardiac sonographer or nurse with specialized cardiac training will place a small, hand-held device, called a transducer, on several points of your neck and abdomen. A clinician will also take blood pressure measurements in your arms and legs. During the CT scan, you will lie comfortably on your back while the CT scanner records images of your heart. Please avoid wearing shirts with metal buttons or snaps. Ladies should avoid wearing underwire bras. Radiation is involved in this screening.

When you are finished, we will send your results to one of our cardiovascular providers on staff at Baptist Heart for evaluation.
